A Polish historian on the aesthetic and utilitarian merits of the Jaipuri quilt

http://www.livemint.com/2012/01/20195046/Culture-wrap.html?h=B

Whether it’s block-printed floral motifs, the iconic poppy, zig-zag lehariya, concentric geometry or Mughal motifs, Jaipuri quilts perfectly express the vivacity of Rajasthan. Inspired by that burst of colour and pattern, Krystyna Hellström, who was born in Poland and now lives in Stockholm, Sweden, wrote her first book, Jaipur Quilts, which was launched earlier this month.

Hellström, who has a degree in history of art from Lund University, Sweden, and did a thesis on Jaipuri and Provençal quilts, spent the last three years meeting designers and craftsmen in India to find out more about the quilting and printing of these razais.
