Hi,

I would like to know where you store your finished quilts when they are not in use.

I have a "bunch" thrown over the top of a quilt rack - the poor thing is going to break one of these days!  There is no wall space to speak of in this little house.

There's a Christmas tree bed quilt, a summer bed quilt, a fall bed quilt, a red and white bed quilt, 5 or 6 lap quilts, 2 antique quilts, and an unspecified number of wall hangings - all on this one little quilt rack.  And the more I finish the more there are!

I've even begun to think about giving them away!

So, where and how do you store yours?

Bobbie, I hear you GF. I had mine all folded in a closet. The mountain of quilts, Jay called them. They were piled on quilt rack too. Then a light bulb moment Wink  They are quilts right Huh Quilts go on beds. AHA, that's where I store them. I have 3 empty beds here. So they all go on the beds, stored nice & flat Even the WH, & extra table runners are all on the beds. So when you come & stay at my house, Deb & Karen, you have to UN-make the beds Grin

OR unquilt the beds.  Cheesy cracking myself up again.
I have extra quilts in piles near the couch, in closet, laid on the couch to collect the cat hair. I have to think about how to pack them for my move.

Dixie when they all come - you can have one of those old fashion bed turnings, then when you get to the bottom, they can help put the sheets on.  I know they want to see them any ways!!  Wink

I have mine in different spots -
I have the quilt rack with 3 places to hang,  several on each rung with LOTS on top

I have a ladder in my room with lots on each rung

an old drying rack with lots on each rung

an old tobacco rack with lots on each rung

my mothers old doll bed with lots (smaller ones) folded in it

a huge crock with lots rolled and stuck in

a very large brass planter with lots rolled in

some (tiny - Jo Morton types) are folded in an old book case that holds china

backs of chairs, on the tables, the usual suspects folded at the bottoms of beds and tops of everything I own!!!

Linda, I like the planter idea with them rolled in that Cool That would be great for the table runners when not in use. Then they can stay in the dining room. I forget about them sometimes because they are buried Roll Eyes under the bed quilts. They are all over the house too. on chairs, sofas, walls, even Harley has his old practice quilt to lay on, & quilt racks. Thought about the ladders, hmmmm thinking, where would one go..... Huh Great idea about the bookcase, cept they are full of books. Well some of the books could go, quilts are more important. Do have 2 quilt racks full.

Yepper, Deb & Karen will definitely have an unquilt the bed turning. You guys do really crack me up Grin Love it.

Un-quilty  Wink

I forgot to mention - I have the quilt rack on the wall w/ 2 folded & hanging and also some on the railing to the loft (shhhh - some are under the one on display)  I did take a few out of the "bathtub" but I will be giving a few as gifts for the grands getting married (thank goodness)  Wink

Little quilts do look cute rolled up, and gives more color to the room - I wanted hubby to make a rack on one whole wall in guest room, but I'm dragging my feet finding the way I want it done.

I do give lots away though - T loves my HK quilt but she's not getting that one til I'm gone - of course I could make her one  Wink

I have given mine away to grand kids, my son and my niece and nephew.

I have 3 more to make for new babies and 2 for niece and nephew.

A total of 3 are still here....my first attempt.  One my mom made for me and one I made for her ...a rag quilt.  She attempted to bind with bias tape that is a mess.  I thought about removing the tape but won't.  She passed with Alzheimer's and that will be something to remember her.

I think that I am going to make stuff for me!

p.s. My daughter wants me to make her a wall hanging now.

I have a pile on the guest room bed - all nice and flat.
I have 4 quilts hanging on rods of various kinds - kitchen, bedroom (as a headboard over our bed) living room and at the top of the stairs.

btw - I got one of those little magnetic quilt hangers at a quilt show - it works great, but the removable sticky tabs kept letting go, so we used molly bolts and it's not coming down again!  that's the one at the top of the stairs.

I've given a lot of quilts away - grandkids, friends, etc.  I keep pics in a couple of albums so I can 'remember' all the quilts I've made.  sometimes when I'm visiting I'll see something that looks vaguely familiar...and it will turn out to be something I've made a couple decades ago!

Oh my Pat! Shocked
Linda, I love how it sounds you store your quilts.  Most of the large quilts I have made have been made for someone, so they are gone.  Seasonal quilts are stored with that seasons decorations, sort of. (I had a pink/brown Easter wallhanging still up when I put up the fall quilt.) The everyday littles are folded on book shelf.

I have given away most of my quilts as gifts to family.
I do have a few extras downstairs waiting for a purpose...
they are stored individually in pillowcases and layered in plastic tubs under my cutting table.
My UFOs are in assorted forms of storage depending on size or how far along in the process I am...stacked in plastic tray-baskets or various size ziplock baggies in boxes under around and on top of sewing table! Roll Eyes

hm

what you see in my photo is only about 1/3 of what i own. Having written over 20 books and made hundreds of quilts for the magazines and my fabric lines.. I really do have a lot.  I won't even GUESS how many.. but many hundred projects for sure! A book alone can have 20 quilts. And I might make 40 projects in one busy year.
