I will give you the Readers Digest version here.
At my guild retreat 2 year ago, we were snowed i by not one but 2 snow storms. The hotel staff could not even come into work I burnt up my foot control. The machine started. sewing without me there! It took the other sewers time to figure out that I was not there. Hee hee hee. Of course someone unplugged the machine. When I returned I plugged it back and tried to sew again. I accidently hit the side of the pedal and off it went again. However, this time it started smoking and stinking up the room. At least I had hand work with me so I could do something.
This year we had an ice storm the day before but I was determined to go anyways. Nothing stops a quilter. We have only a spiral staircase to get upstairs in our hours. How stupid! Coming down the stairs with the last thing to put in the truck I fell over the TOP of railing. OUCH! Bruised and battered I still went.
Once I got to the hotel and set up and I plugged in another machine I had taken (Baby Lock). I turned it on and the screen came up but it would not work. Several people tried to figure out what was wrong but it was dead. Ok, I am NOT going home (30 mins) to get another one), Now what! Later that night, the roads had cleared and we headed to a local store to look for a cheap used machine I could purchase to get through the weekend. Yeah right! I ended up buying a new Bernina.
What should have been a 15 min drive there ended up taking an hour because of the way the GPS was leading us. The highway was also clogged with an accident. Coming home was much quicker and I had a new machine to use.
I did end up with a small prize for being the first person in the guild retreat history to had to go out and buy a new machine.
Is someone trying to tell me not to go on retreat again?

DH did load the night before except for my suitcase. That is what I was bringing. I have fallen on the stairs before and broke my foot. This time I went over the top of the railing falling 3-4 feet and whacking my back against a bookcase. Boy did I see stars. Quilters are so determined. The girls who went to the store with me wuld not let me carry the machine back in seeing how bad I was. Later discovered that the one who carried the machine into the hotel was a Dr.

My boo boos have gone away and I am back to my normal clumsy self. DH can't understand why I had to buy a new machine vs a cheap uses one. Duh, you don't replace a machine with a used one in an ice storm. ROFL. I love the machine and will be taking a free class to learn all the features.

I hope you are taking a surge suppressor power bar with you when you go on retreats. I wouldn't plug my machine in anywhere without one. Especially after the retreats you've had. Good Luck with your new machine!

So SOrry you had to flip for a new machine and a NINA too! You can't beat that buy. DH, tell him it was cheaper than back surgery and the recoup time was minutes. LOL I love the story.

Went to retreat this year. Dropped my Bernina 830 on the sidewalk. The other Bernina I forgot to bring the power cord. Ended up driving all the way back home to get it. Yes, I checked all my bags before I left.
I am such a clutz. Fell flat on my face trying to get on the sidewalk dropping my old Bernina. Tried to get INTO the shower and fell back out landing on the ceramic floor and whacking my head on the door.
I think that maybe I should not be going to these retreats.
