Carmella Bertrand (sleuth in the Laura Child's scrapbook mysteries).

I like Carmella because she owns a scrapbook store in New Orleans.  She has wonderful friends, great dogs, and she is a lot of fun.  When I read these books, I just know I would love being her friend, and hanging out in the scrapbook store.  Also, a plus is the fact that she talks about all the great food in New Orleans...yum!

I can't remember her name, but teh main character in Cleo Coyle's CoffeeHouse Mystery series.  And the box car children will always have a place in my heart.  I can't wait until the girls are older so we can read those together!

My answer went away! My first favorite is kinsey Milhone by Sue Grafton. She's very smart and down to earth, and solves really interesting mysteries. Next would have to be Benni Harper. Love that Gabe, and her Grandmother, and her great museum job. Also Earlene Fowler was the first author who ever answered my letter. I was so impressed. I have all Terrii's books, so don't pick me. Fun idea, though. Barb In CA

"Who is your favorite amateur sleuth? Why?"

My favorite sleuth is Benni Harper from author Earlene Flowler.  I like her because she has no fear and is feisty.  And she seems to have fantastic taste in men -- even the ones she turns away.

I want to see a movie or TV series.  Whoever stars in the TV series would become the new Jessica Fletcher!  I enjoy thinking about who would play the characters. . . .

Give me a cloak and dagger and I can relax! Smiley  Right now I am reading a Kathy Reichs novel, BareBones and I like Brennan because she is so smart and independent.  I like Kinsey too and go to her when I really need to go South Smiley...she is a runner like me and lives a very simple, uncomplicated life like I would  like but...

I could go on with sleuths because that is all I'm reading right now, so fun and better than a tv show!

I would say that my favorite sleuth was Trixie Belden. I had all her books growing up. My mom would read them to me and we would enjoy each one. My mom still reads to me today. Whenever I am driving she will read to help the time pass. We have shared many great books together. I have two girls so I should share these great books with them. I had kind of forgot about Trixie until this question was put forth.

oh oh oh,,,,Trixie Belden and Nancy Drew,,,,yuppers.  I had allllll of them.  I just got an altered book from a blog giveaway that is an old Nancy Drew book.  Although I love the altered book it kind of made my heart break that the book wasn't in its original form!  I'll just have to write my own stories in it I guess!

Favorite sleuth? Hands down ... Nancy Drew! What a great roll model for young girls (and old). She was way ahead of her time - independent and smart. She didn't sit around waiting for her boyfriend, she was a "take charge and just do it" kind of gal.

Todate, I have not read any of Terri Thayer's books, so winning one would be great.

I've read and enjoyed most of the books posted above and can't decide from among those amatuer sleuths.  One that I haven't seen mentioned is Goldy Schulz in the books by Diane Mott Davidson.  Nothing like reading a good book on a day/night like we are scheduled to get today -- snow and lots of it.

For me it's Sue Grafton and Janet Evanovich.  My husband just doesn't understand the giggling when I'm reading!

I like Benni Harper, but my all time favorite is Trixie Belden.  I am 49 years old but still love reading Trixie's adventures.

I love all the sleuths mentioned so far. My absolute #1 fave, however, is Amelia Peobody Emerson of Elizabeth Peters' pen. Amelia was a feminist at the turn of the 20th century and the icing on the cake is the setting of Egypt. Finding tombs and kings remains is the thread, but the is a running joke about finding another dead body every season that they excavate. She is a self made archiologist. Where is that spell checker again? These are books you could read to a child. All the steam is hidden in Hmms and Humphs. Leaving the details to the imagination. I love this series and she started writing it in the 60's with Crocodile on the Sandbank. Her writing actually improved across the series and I love seeing the development of her characters. It is said she will never kill off her main characters. I like that a lot. Of course Sephanie and Lula still make me LOL. I love the audio versions of any of these books. Rosenblatt is my fave reader. Cheesy
