I had a hard time with the graphic descriptions.  Lived in Virginia for 20+ years.  Drove everyday through the Manassas Battlefield Park to get to work.  Soldiers returning or not returning -- same then and now.....

Kay:  I just picked up a copy from the library, but have to finish another book before starting it.  Mmm, I was thinking it might not be an exactly cheerful book.  BTW, my daughter has been visiting Civil War sites around Leesburg, Loudoun County for her history project.  There is certainly a lot of history around our area.

I lived in Maryland for about 6 years, then lived in Centreville-Virginia for those 20+ years.  Taught down in Fauquier County.  Went on a motorcycle run one time that supposedly followed Mosby's Trail.  We had a guest rider that day who was also a historian.  It was great.  We'd get a little lecture and walking tour at every stop.  I miss Virginia except for the snow and humidity and traffic and cost of living.  I love reading Emilie Richards series that occurs in the Shenandoah.  Maybe it's time to reread those books.

I also am looking forward to that series on the Shenandoah.  No matter where I am - I'm always going to be a Virginia girl at heart!!

I've never lived in VA, but TN on the border, and NC in the Piedmont. VA folks are the best. If you looking for other VA novels try the Sneaky Pie Brown series. They are great. Just finished up the latest by audio.

Yes, Rita Mae Brown's books about the cats -- Sneaky Pie Brown!  She lives (lived?) near Charlottlesville-Virginia.  I used to visit that town quite often.  I can picture the spots that she talks about in her books.  Best place I remember is that gas station that almost hangs off the mountainside in Crozet.

I will have to take a look at Rita Mae's books.  I was just down in Charlottesville a few days ago on a college tour with my daughter.  She was certainly impressed by the Univ of Virginia and intends to apply there.  If she does go to school there, I will be spending more time in that town.  It is really in a beautiful part of the state.
