Well I have to mark our adoption of cat #3 in the Hughson Household. DH says we are officially a 'Cat House" now. I don't really like the sound of that.  Shocked Anyway, Jan. needs embroidered notations on the various strips. Feb. goals: Calendar quilt 2nd mo, get my first quilt done on the frame and put my big board ironing board back up, help the new kitty to adjust. That's enough.  Wink

Good morning!  my calendar quilt is up to date - I spent yesterday cutting up squares (a gross of each) for a FB block swap and added strips of the swap fabric to my calendar strip for Feb.  Combining Stash Buster week with FB Swap week AND Calendar quilt - 3 for the money!  GO GO GO!

Thanks for all of the kind words about my January block and my Macy...yes, she was my baby.

Tonight I'm hoping to get some fabric cut and play around with placement to start my February block.  I hope to keep this enthusiasm up for each month.  If not, feel free to give me some kicks in the backside!

The adopted kitty thanks you all for the compliments. HE does not have a name as yet. DH is leaning toward 'Buddy'., me not so much. My sis suggested 'Egypt' since our two girly cats are named after an Egyptian series of mysteries by Elizabeth Peters and set in Egypt with a cat always incorporated in the stories. Bastet is one male cats name that we haven't used yet. But it's too close to a bad name for me. I'm thinking Ramses since that is a nickname of the young hero. So maybe he will be the hero of his harem here.

I think having this group chatter and sharing is one HUGE step in keeping motivated each month.. I was the ring leader the first time I tried and got about 7 months done.. but the 2nd time we really kept chatting and it works!

love the kitty naming process.... my first dog and his sister that my MIL had were almost named for 2 tv show guys... LOL!! But we changed the names after a day or so.. as they just didn't fit them.  Mine was named Teddy since he looked like those old fashioned teddy bears.. but I shortened it to 'Ted' and the people at work thought i had a little boy ... LOL!

One of the things I accomplished today was sorting, I took styrofoam egg cartons and used them to sort all the alphabet beads I purchased for my calendar quilt blocks I also while sorting thought hmmmmmmmmm these would also be good to put things as I find them such as buttons, beads, pins, ribbon, ric rac, etc... for each month. So thats what I did I started an egg carton for each month that way when I go to embelish everything is there nice and handy!

I save my egg cartons to use for freezing some of my cookies like reese cup, tassies, austrian peaches, mini chscakes. They are perfect so the cookies don't get crushed and I wrap them tight with plastic wrap before freezing.

The best part of the calendar quilt ... when it's all finished, it unexpectedly brings back memories. While making the bed this a.m., I glanced at this little section of my 2009 quilt and it brought a smile to my face. My daughter asked me to "help" her make a baby quilt for a friend. The orange and blue strips were from that quilt.

I know! Those memories are amazing. What pops up when you think about the fabrics. One reason I LOVE quilting, and quilting friends.

Last night I cut 20 strips for February.  I keep rearranging the order after Feb. 14, so I'm thinking it will be best to wait until I decide on the rest of the strips & how I want to transition into March.  I won't be able to get much, if anything, done on it this weekend, BUT the following weekend will be wonderfully long, with only a 1/2 work day on Friday & President's Day off.  I can't wait!
