I finished my first star block and posted on flickr.  The next 3 will be the same except I am going to use different reds for the star points on each one.

Thanks for the directions Dawn... too bad I can't read straight.  I mis-read the block sizes and I cut all the blocks at 5.5 in and now I have to square everything  to 4.5 in before putting them all together..... I gotta get new glasses!  So now I've added an extra step for my self in squaring up these 16 bowtie blocks... thank goodness for the elinor burns ruler!  Hopefully I'll get them done and psot pix later tonight.

I am using the same background fabric throughout the quilt.  And I am going to try and use similar fabrics throughout the quilt so that all the blocks blend together, rather than compete with each other.  So far I've had enough matching fabrics to do that.  We'll see what the next blocks bring.

Grandson is home and daughter off to class so I need to babysit now.

I'm with you Pat, would love to see this in soft cottage colors. Hmmm... Should I make a second, since I have nothing else going on. Ha
Madakamom, I couldn't begin to tell you how many times I have done something similiar. It's really bad when you are the one who wrote the pattern.

Looks great! I am afraid with everyone whipping these out so fast I will be forced to post the next block even sooner.
Pat, yes on the soft blue eagle. Course grey would be good too. Ooh, what about a soft beige eagle on a pale blue background.....

Dawn one a month is JUST FINE....  Grin  I've done these for YEARS and there are always speedy girls that finish right away.. and the rest enjoy waiting until the last day of the month!!

Now you have my brain thinking on that eagle.... If I didn't have a 2 books and 4 magazine quilts for the next 2 months I just might do it.. might do it ANYWAY!

I posted my first block for Dawn's Vicksburg quilt to the Flickr site. I used a gold wool for the eagle and a flag print cotton for the background. Someone else had done the eagle in the same fabric and I liked it and remembered that I also had that fabric in my stash. It took me a long time to decide if I would use wool or do traditional applique. I finally decided I wanted to use wool. I am going to make my star blocks next and then when I see the next applique block or two, I'll choose the colors for those blocks all at the same time. I am going to try to use all Civil War era fabrics. :-)
