Book Review: The Double Cross by Clare O'Donohue

http://www.monstersandcritics.com/books/mystery/reviews/article_1590417.php/Book-Review-The-Double-Cross

A knotty new Nell Fitzgerald mystery in the series that's beguiling cozy fans and quilters alike.

Nell Fitzgerald and the Someday Quilts ladies are asked to lead a quilting workshop at a new bed and breakfast in upstate New York. However, the retreat quickly takes an unexpected dark turn. When a body is found in the woods, and one of their own is the chief suspect, the ladies must rely on their craftiest thinking as they embark on their most personal case yet.

With smart, sassy Nell leading the charge to clear her friend's name and find the real murderer, The Double Cross is sure to confirm Clare O'Donohue as a master of the mystery genre.

I have a book called "Quilter's Knot" by Arlene Sachitano, which I still have to get around to reading.  A quilt guild goes off to a Folk Art School for a week-long retreat, but unfortunately the owner of the school dies during the retreat.  Makes you think twice about going off to those quilting retreats!  Who knows what will happen?

http://www.amazon.com/Quilters-Knot-Harriet-Threads-Mysteries/dp/1934841102/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1286845157&sr=1-1#

"Long-arm quilter Harriet Truman and her quilt group the Loose Threads set off for what should be an enjoyable week of stitching at the Angel Harbor Folk Art School, where member Lauren Sawyer is attending a two-year program in part to quiet the accusation that she copies other people’s work. It appears Lauren is up to her old tricks when Harriet's Aunt Beth announces she’s seen Lauren’s quilt in a museum in Europe. Lauren believes Selestina Bainbridge, owner and teacher at the school, is the one who copied her and insists Harriet prove it. When Selestina dies, Harriet must unravel the clues to exonerate her friend."

I read the first book of the Harriet Truman series. It was good. I'm gonna look for this one. Hope it's the second cause I like to read them in sequence. I'm weird that way. Still lovin Foxfire with the automatic spell check. I don't look so ignorant. LOL Undecided

I just finished reading "Double Cross". Fun read. I love quick to read mysteries, every since my Nancy Drew and Cherry Ames days. LOL. Lots of fun books like this. I think this is Clare's best book yet.

Thanks for the recommendation.  I will try to find a copy of the book myself.

I'm gonna look for Double Cross, it's one of the Truman books, right? I finished the first one this summer and liked it. Yes, I've read all the Bennie Harper books and thought I would make a sampler quilt of one block for each title of her series. Good idea, eh? Wink

Yeah, it's in my head so far, not on the cutting mat yet, Shirley. The idea was to make a block for every book title in the Fowler series. Fools Puzzle, Steps to the Alter, Goose in the Pond and the rest. Just making a sampler of blocks won't make it a Bennie Harper quilt, Pat, good try though. LOL I don't have to count a quilt in my head as a UFO, right?

Sharon, the Truman books are a different series. Nell is the center character in the  Clare O'Donohue series.  I read all the Bennie Harper books too. Fowler also wrote "The Saddlemakers Wife" not a Bennie Harper book, but I really loved it.

If you like these type of mysteries Diane Mott Davison is great. Joanne Fluke also fast read and fun. I like Monica Ferris too, her books are set in a needlework shop.

Yeah, I like the Ferris series also. Sandra Dallas writes a little differently, but it's a good read also.
