Awesome "cover" when the link was lost. Sooo good on both your ends. First thing I thought of was my grandma in the 50's watching live soap operas and, yes, sometimes there was a glitch. Gotta get back to listening.

Pat, I thought the two of you "recovered" so well. I think I would have been screaming "HELP" really loudly! Great show! I didn't know that it was taboo to clip your seams as Carrie described. I've actually shared that tip in my beginner quilt classes. I thought it was okay but evidently it's not (although, I'll continue to do it). I figure it all depends on the purpose of the quilt and as she said, if it's going to be machine quilted then everything will be secured with the machine quilting. However, I can see that on a quilt top that would be "tied" it might mean the stitching would open up. And that's an area where I have often been corrected because a "tied" quilt is not a real quilt, it's a "comforter". Just my opinion here but whether they are called quilts or comforters, I love them all. :-)

LOL... I survived my 1st lost of signal during a live show.. next time will be even smoother!!
Sandi listen again to what Carrie said .. she didn't say it was wrong to clip.. she just said conventional Quilt making does not TEACH this.. and often will say not to clip.. but most people don't know 'why' that would be.
IF you are HAND PIECING I would not clip as you don't have the sturdy machine pieced seam.
As far as I know a tied quilt is a quilt.. I bring a 'tied antique quilt' to my lectures and it's a real quilt!

I've been corrected by a couple of "quilt appraisers" that I must not refer to my tied quilts as quilts. I have a beautiful wool quilt that is tied and is heavily embroidered with feather stitch and such but I was told I cannot call it a quilt. I call it a quilt anyway as my dad bought it and he loved it and called it a quilt! :-) You are right on what Carrie said......I said that wrong. Conventional quilting is not taught the way one learns to sew. I remember being surprised at the number of quilters in the guild I belonged to prior to our move and it amazed me that they could sew quilts but felt they could not sew a piece of clothing. I do clip some when hand-piecing but I have a way of stitching that is as good as machine stitching. It comes from more than 25 years of making miniature furniture, dolls and tiny baby quilts - all of it 1" to the foot. My tiniest miniature baby quilts are the size of a recipe card. :-)

I am going to go back and listen to the last half of the show. I don't get the clipping part. Hmmm.

Sandi I bet that for appraisals a 'quilt' has a certain definition.. which just means it has to fit that to be appraised as a quilt with a quilts standards... Just like if you submit a quilt into a show and quilt it on my George it is NOT quilted on a long arm. The definition of a long arm is that you push the machine to do the quilting!
On clipping.. for small pieces and for certain blocks it helps to get seams to lay flatter... so if a seam needs a little 'clip' to help it lay flat.... that is what Carrie was chatting about. Get a Jo Morton book and see if Jo has some photos

I am definitely watching for that flowered watering can. It just "caught my eye" and when I finally plant some flowers, I know I would use it and it would make me smile. :-) After we built our house, we concentrated on getting a good lawn going but have yet to do any "floral landscaping". We hope to do some on the front of our house this summer. I need all new garden tools, too, so maybe there are some that match the planter. :-)
