I'm almost finished with 'The Help' and I absolutely LOVE IT! Don't want it to end. It addresses black maids that work for white women  in 1963 Jackson, Mississippi. WOW! It has happy, sad, angry, humorous aspects. I am 38 and from the Pacific Northwest. I have learned about segregation and all that in school but this perspective just brings it all to life.

Hi Everybody,

Pat, thanks for choosing not only my book but two of my other favorite reads!  THE HELP is the best thing I've read in a long time and, at least so far, is my favorite book of 2009.  I've told everybody about it.  I'm a big fan of Adriana Trigiani, too.  The Big Stone Gap books are terrific, but my favorite by Adriana is LUCIA, LUCIA - sweet story and paints a great picture of what the world was like before everyone bought their clothes off a rack.  Really interesting.

hummmmm,,i will have to go look at  the list and see whats up. I have three going right now. Two  paranormal, one of which is of course vvampire! and then i have an odd one called the other  queen.  She wrote the  white queen that just came out in August and then there was a movie  about another book she did.. the other Bolyn girl or something like that. i can't spell tonight!  i didn't much care for the movie but the book was pretty decent.

Great choice! I got my copy straight from Marie at the Chicago show. Now I can read along.

It's a virtual cafe you've created, Pat. It's always fun to sit around and talk books. Thanks!

I just got the September list and will be starting with Marie's book, A Single Thread first.  I'm getting quite a reading pile here, and am heading to the National Book Festival on Saturday, so I'm sure the pile will grow even more this weekend!

I loved The Help--couldn't put it down. I'm currently reading a really good dog story, The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. I'll finish it before bed tonight. I just can't put it down! Very excited to hear of the books by Marie Bostwick. Thanks, Pat.
