My sister has sent me 12 or so OH Star blocks she has been working on since the 90's as a gift to her DIL. She sent these to me b/c she is coming to visit (maybe her last time to the ocean which she loves). She has just ben dx. w/lung CA for the 3rd time and surgery is not possible now. She is on oxygen. I promised her I would finishthis quilt for her to give. Man, talk about pressure.

Wow Sharon.. this is a 'love project'... and we have lots of love to help you! What status is it in now? Needs a setting? Do you need a fancy one or just sashing?

I have several autumn projects(wall hangings/table runners) that are done, just need to get "done, done"(need to be quilted and bindings sewed on).  I love sunflowers and am finishing up a wall hanging from 10 years ago right now....  I'd like to make some simple sunflower table runners and pillows before moving on to the pile of UFO with pumpkins, colored leaves and darker colors of autumn.

Pat, I also have a sunflower banner and an acorn banner from your book of banners that I also made 10 years ago(that are "done") that is on my list to complete this month.

Well, like I've said several times this summer, I want to finish my Halloween Crooked cabin. I have the center complete, surrounded by a black 2" border. I'm working on making a border that is similar to the regular blocks. I don't know if it's going to work and so I'm nervous and that is keeping me from working on it. I'm afraid I'm not going to have enough fabric and then I'll have to add some new ones and those new ones will only be in one section of the border and it will look weird.

If they are all Halloween colors and fabric, do you think that will be noticeable? Also, the blocks are 14". Is there a certain total number of inches I should make the border? I was thinking I'd make the crazy strippy border from 6-8 in.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Sarah in Houston

I have two quilts in the floor that only need binding, so I would like to finish those, and then finish piecing my log cabin blocks.  16 blocks are done, and the last 20 only need strips on two sides and they are done.  That's only 40 strips left to sew.  Surely, I can do this!

Betty your houses are AWESOME.. and Sarah you KNOW I'm jealous of your quilt!!!

Cindy only TWO for binding.. what are you slacking?? hehe......

Ok.. Let's help Sarah pick a border... you want structured? Unstructured? Is this for the bed Sarah? whatever your border is will be hanging over the edges of your bed or as a lap quilt?   Did you want to applique or not?

I'm gonna try and get a pic. of the blocks my sis sent to me. She is coming on the 2nd and I really would like to have the blocks half way done by then. She has lots of block made already. She is pretty good at piecing. She wants them sashed and says the DIL's fav. colors are navy or dark blue and ummm.....I can't remember the other fav. color. Sis wants a fairly solid color sashing so the block stand out. That was her part remember? I see about the pic, but I don't know how to shrink pics and my avatar never appeared cause I think it was too big. I'm big, does that matter? LOL

The quilt will probably go on the bed. (queen size) Unstructured is fine and I already have letters ready to put on the border that will say:  Don't make me get my flying monkeys. I have some unstructured border done already. Maybe there is another idea. Thanks in advance for your help.

do you want your words to be in the border? if so.. across the top and down one side? Like on my bed I never see the one border... so if I wanted to read it I would not put them there.

How about your unstructured border.. some words.. add in some stars.. pieced or appliqued... I could see those at the start and stop of the saying

Love all the projects you all are working on.  The halloween one reminds me that I have a halloween one to quilt too...  Humm with Halloween almost right around the corner (or at least it will be by the time I get to quilting it!) I need to move that one up on the list.

I work better with lists.  I seem to like crossing stuff off lists.  Sooooo....  here's my latest list of SOME of the UFO's that I want to get done soon.

Christmas Pickle - done in bright color batiks - It's mostly paper pieced so thank goodness it is only a large lap size and not a full sized quilt.

A Cream/Green/Pink & Burgundy top that I made while fooling around with EQ6 - Oops!  Waited too long to get more of the green fabric now I have to search for something comparable - GOOD LUCK

McCalls Quilting magazine did a BOM about 2 years ago - Romantic style ribbon, butterflies and hearts applique quilt.  The top is almost finished.

Then I have 3 quilts that I want to quilt:

#1 Halloween quilt - now at #1 - the top has been completed for what? almost 3 years now.
#2 A red/white redwork snowman quilt
#3 Red/White and Blue quilt a Miss Rosie's Quilt pattern

Whew!  Those are things that I really want to get done.  I have more but those are currently at the top of my list.

I really like this topic and it is certainly inspiring to see everyone finishing up something of theirs.

Sharon - Good luck with your sister's blocks AND hugs for your sister.

Karen
