Are you are ROWDY girl? Meaning you like books that have a little 'race' in them? Maybe something on the titillating or even dark side of writing?   Share your favorites here as someone else is surely wanting to know what then next 'Rowdy' book will be!

Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" series might be considered rowdy.....if that means racy with a bit of adult content but tastefully done.  Wink  The story begins when a woman in the 40's visits the Scottish Highlands and while at a rock thing (like Stonehenge) she is suddenly transported into 1745 Scotland. That is the only 'paranormal' thing about the books. The rest is very realistic and historically accurate with lots of adventure and a WONDERFUL love story. I have read the first 4 books in the series........well read and listened to. I listen on audio in the car and read at night. I think my son is getting tired of it and wants his Ipod back. LOL

I just finished Duma Key by Stephen King and although it isn't racie and there is a tad of adult content it is more of a horrific "could that happen" type of deal.  Just gives you the creeps like all of his old (prior to accident) books use to.

My favorite are Janet Evanovich, Stephanie and Lula and Laurell K. Hamilton, Anita Blake vampire series.  The Plum series make me laugh out loud as I can see myself and a girlfriend being a lot like Steph and Lula and the Anita Blake series because I just love vampire stories and her stories are really, really ADULT content!

Margi,
I love the Stephanie Plum books too. Lula is a hoot!

Have you read any of Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse books? They now have an HBO series based on the books called True Blood. I haven't seen it but have read a few of the books. Then of course there is Twilight! My daughter forced me to read it and I was hooked so I read all 4.

I also love the Anita Blake books, and the Sookie Stackhouse series.  I also enjoy Charlaine Harris's other series, and the Meredith books by Laurell Hamilton.

Unfortunately, I do not enjoy the Stephanie Plum books.  I have tried and tried, but they are not for me.  I have read all the Outlander books, also.  They also were not my favorites.

We are so lucky that there are books for all tastes.

A little while ago i read The Secret Life of a Slummy Mummy by Fiona Neill.  Sometimes you just wanted to slap her she got herself into some ridiculous situations of her own making.  I must say I was desperate for a light read on the plane home from Brisbane and this was the only book that qualified.   On some levels I sympathized with the main character other times it was what the hell are you doing woman.

Thanks for the reminder of this series.  I started reading her books then stopped to read something else.  I finished the second one a year ago.  (I actually keeps track of series books and when I finished reading the books.)

I wish I had kept better track of the books I've read. I read so fast I forget titles and have bought books twice.
mary Deheim's Alpine series is terrific. One of my favorites that I buy as soon as the next one's out. About a weekly newspaper editor in a tiny town (Alpine) In the Washington State Mountains. She solves mysteries and has an inteeresting life. The small town characters are great. It's an "alphabet series" and I think she's about at "U." There was an "Alpine Quilt" for "Q" of course.

Probably in the Good Book Cafe, someone mentioned the Alpine Quilt book.  That's what got me started reading Mary Daheim.  I'm not sure why i started with the Bed and Breakfast Series.  Maybe because that book had the earlier publication date in my public library catalogue?  I'll just read through both series!

I love Stephanie Plum and Lola! I listen to this series in the car and sometimes sit in the driveway b/c I can't stop. I'm laughing as I drive - not just smiling. I think you might have to have some connection to NJ to get this. Being a transplant to NJ, I have met a few Stephs and even Lolas. I'm not into Sci Fi so the vampire stuff is out for me. Same for horror. Life is scarey enough for me, I don't have to read fiction for that. I love light mysteries racey or not. Guess I'm not as Rowdy as I think.

I joined recently goodreads.com. I can input the books I read and give them a rating. I have 4 bookshelves: read, to read, currently reading, and to buy (some of these aren't for sale yet). One day I was looking around and saw several I have already read that I forgot about so added them to my read shelf. Of course my to read shelf is getting bigger all the time - there are so many good books I'll never run out of something to read.

Another way to avoid reading things twice is to only read new books, but what fun it that.

I love that there are places like this were we can share about the ones worth reading! I take notes and put them in my purse so I am ready when I am in a book store or online.
