"Also a Harlan Coben novel (Hold Tight, I think) with a narrator I do not like. In fact I think he spoils the story and makes almost every character sound cynical, even obnoxious. I finally figured out that it's the narrator, not the writing. So narrators make a huge difference." I had read this book and it was really good - One of those that you can't put down. It must be the narrator because I have gotten that impression from any of his books. I started a new one on saturday by Coben - "Tell no one" and it is really good. I can't wait to get out of work so I can finish it. I even had a headache yesterday but I could not put that book down....... Teri

I so agree with the narrator makes the book. I love Rosenblatt and Godell as narrators. There is one that has no inflection at all. Every character sounds like the other and monotone. YIKES! That's the devil to listen too and try to keep everyone straight. I also have problems listening to a book with scads of characters. I can't remember who is who. That happens when I read print too. Hey, is there no spell checker on these posts?

I agree about Barbara Rosenblatt...one of the best readers I've ever heard. I know if she's narrating I'll like it. She does so many,it must be a full time job- I especially like all the Mrs. Polifax series (written by Dorothy Gilman.)

I just finished Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult...good but heartbreaking. If you read My Sister's Keeper, you know her style.
Now about 1/3 of the way through The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I also recommend this highly.
I am reading Julia Child's cookbook since seeing Julie and Julia...it is wonderful but makes me so hungry!
Unfortunately, my reading time has diminished in direct proportion to my quilting time!

If you want to read and quilt, and you don't want to listen to the book, I highly recommend a timer. An hour of each (and maybe chores and other stuff) will get both done and is better for your back. Just keep alternating and everything gets done.

I love to listen to books on my iPod but I cannot do that and quilt as well as I need to concentrate on the quilting!!!! So the 1 hour of each is a great idea - will have to try it. In the meantime, I listen whenever I am in the car - 5 minutes or and hour - whatever! Karen

I'm reading Fortune's Rocks by Anita Shreve. I'm enjoying it although it is a bit heavy in places.

I'm reading the Sept read for the group, Marie Bostwicks "A Thread of Truth" and love it. It has a great story line that I'm sure all of us can relate to in some form or fashion. The cast of characters is very, very interesting!

Hi - I'm a southern belle, lived in the same SCn town all my life, now in a book group that is planning to focus on southern authors or southern tales for next year. So, to get a head start and maybe have something to recommend, I am reading Bound South by Susan Rebecca White. If the first chapter is any indication, I am definitely going to enjoy the humor in this one! I recently finished The House at Riverton and have given it to 2 friends to enjoy. Where can I find this group's list of reads? Further intro - I am a grandmother of five ranging in age from 18 mos. to 18 years, am retired, and am a hopeless stash-aholic and quilt maniac. 19 minutes is the best. I listened to it on audio. I cried, sighed and laughed in places.
