Recently I have read Happiness Key and A Single Thread which were fantastic, I have A Thread of Trush lined up and quite enjoy the Benni Harper Mysteries too - this book list is costing me a foturne as our library system doesn't have books from these authors.  I have also ordered the Persian Pickle Club from comments on this list!!
It is great to get such a range of book reviews, now I just need some time to read them all!

Pat, I always have a talking book in my car and DH's car. He doesn't converse and I have to have some input going. So I listen to books. If he does interrupt, I tell him to be quiet I'm listening to a book. LOL The record once was a 13 hr. trip w/o one word from him. That's when I started the books on trips. Right now I'm listening to Drop Dead Gorgeous and it is a hoot. Set in NC with southern accents and all.

I am always listening to one book and reading another....depending on whether I'm quilting at the moment. Right now I'm listening to the latest Alexander McCall Smith, "Tea time For the Traditionally Built"- 10th in the series of the "No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency." I adore these books, they always raise my mood, and I get excited every time a new one comes out. Smith is another author like Emilie- I can't believe how prolific they are!   Barb in CA

I love audio books.  I'm listening to The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie right now and the narrator is so ultra fabulous, I hate for it to end.  Great book, too.  Also a Harlan Coben novel (Hold Tight, I think) with a narrator I do not like.  In fact I think he spoils the story and makes almost every character sound cynical, even obnoxious.  I finally figured out that it's the narrator, not the writing. So narrators make a huge difference.

But for trips, dog walks, quilting?  What could be better than a great audio book to go along with it.

Thanks, folks, for the nice words about my books.  So glad you're enjoying them.

Emilie, finishing up Fortunate Harbor, sequel to Happiness Key.

My DH and I have been listening to audio books for years - first on tape, then cd and now iPods.  We have a huge library and listen all the time.  Quite often we have to sit in the car for 10-30 minutes to finish a book while traveling as we don't want to stop before the end.  We love mysteries!  I am working my way the J.A.Jance books now.  Karen

I'm reading a non-fiction book right now, "Novel Destinations: Literary Landmarks From Jane Austen's Bath to Ernest Hemingway's Key West".  As the title suggests, it's something of a travelogue of houses, museums, and even hotels and restaurants where some of the big names in literature lived and wrote.  It's really fascinating and I've been excited to see how many of these landmarks are located within easy driving distance to my home in New England. Looks like I'll be making some road trips!

I stood outside the Hemingway house in Key West but didn't do the tour yet, will next time! I'm always there in the winter and hate going 'inside' if I don't have to.. hehe!

There's a whole section on Jane Austen in this book.  I'd LOVE to re-read all her books and then take a trip to see all these spots, maybe do the same thing with Beatrix Potter and Shakespeare.  Just sounds like the best vacation ever! (In the summer - wouldn't be much fun slogging around England in the rain.)

Pat, saw your earlier post about the Julie and Julia book.  I didn't read that, but I am reading Julia Child's "My Life In France" right now (I'm usually reading several books at once).  Really interesting.  Bet you'd like it.

i might have to get that one Julie... have to make some space in my brain for reading. I'm a 'obsessive' reader so tend to want to read straight through!!!

if all goes well on friday, I'm taking my step mom to see Julie and Julia for her birthday gift... that should be fun as I rarely go to the movies and my stepmom is an awesome cook that learned to cook in France!! She is English but LOVES France... she spent many yrs there.

I have a friend obsessed with Jane Austin ... have to see if she read that book

I'm finally reading Love Mercy by Earlene Fowler.  Some of the Benni Harper characters are in it.  I'm really shocked by what has occurred in the lives of some of those favorite old characters.  Now I'm itching for the next Benni Harper book to see what is going on!

I LOVE the Benni Harper series - and so does my dh - he makes me read it to him when he's driving on long trips - I do all the accents for the characters and keep him awake with my terrible renditions!  but it's better than driving, at least until I get hoarse!

Right now, I'm reading Jennifer Chiaverini's The Winding Ways Quilt - a birthday gift from a quilty girlfriend/

I just discovered the author Greg Iles.  I just finished his latest, The Devil's Punchbowl, which took place in Natchez, MS.  The librarian recommended it, and I really enjoyed it.  I checked out some earlier ones today.  I'll let you know how they are!
